[Business description]
Operates and manages chartered buses and taxis mainly in the Okayama area and neighboring prefectures. As it also functions as a travel agency in partnership with several major travel agencies, it fully supports guests' memorable trips and travel. In addition to displaying "safety declaration cards" in the vehicles and striving for safe operation and safe driving, it is also active in community contribution activities such as accepting alternative rail transport in the event of a disaster.

[Interview article]
First, we will ask Managing Director Matsuda of Inari Transportation Co., Ltd. to talk about the history of the company.

"Our company was established as a limited company in 1963, and initially started its business with three taxis. In 1979, we obtained a chartered bus license, and have been registered as a travel agency since 1983."

Current business activities include operating chartered buses and taxis, and travel business.

"We mainly do day trips for charters and sightseeing, but we also get requests for tours for neighborhood associations and senior citizens' associations, transportation for school events and club activities, as well as for academic conferences and adult training. We own 13 large vehicles, three medium-sized vehicles, and one small vehicle, and strive to meet all needs depending on the number of people and scale.

We also function as a travel agency, and can handle everything from tour planning to arranging accommodation and restaurants, and of course operating the bus. In the past, we organized a custom-made package tour to Wakkanai, Hokkaido for 7 nights and 8 days, and visited all 46 prefectures in Japan except Okinawa. In recent years, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are concerned about the spacing between seats, so I think there is a high demand for large buses."

So-called route buses are not in operation.

"That's right. So unlike route buses, you don't have to drive all day or be rushed by the minute. In 2024, legislation will be put in place to regulate the working hours of large vehicle drivers, so the company is working even harder to respect break times, reduce overtime, and improve working hours.

We take appropriate breaks while driving, and most of the time we're waiting while customers are sightseeing, so we can work at a surprisingly relaxed pace. Actual working hours are 4 to 10 hours, and of course overtime is paid for any hours over 8 hours. The working days are on a shift system, so it's well-balanced and flexible holidays are also attractive."

On the other hand, there is an image that drivers have a lot of accidents and complaints, so some people may be worried. What is the reality in this regard?

"As for accidents, we have had very few serious accidents in the 60 years since our founding. We keep our speed low, research dangerous areas and share them among drivers, avoid dangerous driving, and install two dashcams in all vehicles to prevent trouble.

We also check for alcohol before boarding, and thoroughly conduct health checks and apnea tests once a year. As long as you pay attention to safety and are considerate of our customers, you can rest assured that there will be no complaints."

I felt relieved to hear that. By the way, this time we are not recruiting taxi drivers, but chartered bus drivers.

"The aging of drivers is a problem in this industry. For this reason, we are focusing on safety training and qualification acquisition so that even those with no experience can take on the job. As long as you have a regular driver's license, you can apply up to the age of 65, regardless of gender or experience.

If you do not have a Class 2 license, the company will support you in obtaining the license. There is also a loan system, and if you work for more than five years, you do not have to repay the costs of driving school and qualification acquisition."

What kind of people do you want to join the company, Mr. Matsuda?

"It's good to have an interest in tourist buses, and a desire to provide a comfortable bus trip and contribute to creating memories. We have a lot of elderly people and children, so it would be even better if you can enjoy yourself with the passengers, are friendly, and have hospitality. When I hear thank-you calls and letters from customers, it makes me happy as if it were my own achievement."

"We are a company that has been in business for 60 years, and we have a reputation for good human relations since long ago.
